People:  The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
Leader
:  I have a goodly heritage.
People:  I keep the Lord always before me;
Leader
:  Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
People:  Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices!"

(After reciting the Response, indicate with your hands for the congregation to stand for the first hymn. DO NOT announce the hymn)

*SONGS OF PRAISE #551 (Blue Hymnal)

"Come, Ye Thankful People, Come"

(Lector only) If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In humility and faith let us confess our sin to God, using the prayer printed in your bulletin.

**COMING CLEAN BEFORE OUR CREATOR

Lord God:
We confess that sometimes, we do the right things,
For less than perfect reasons!
There are times we take credit
For opportunities placed before us.
When things go wrong, we're quick to blame.
Save us from pride, O Lord.
Let us find our greatest joy
And our ultimate hope,
In that which only You can do,
And have done for us, through Christ Jesus!
  Amen

RECEIVING FORGIVENESS:

(Lector only)

God has a special place set aside for those willing to say "Me last!" in this world.  The One who gave His life for the sins of the world desires to cleanse, forgive, and prepare a place for us!

*BIBLE READING: Hebrews 10:11-22 (insert)

"Draw Near to God,"

Hebrews 10:11-22 (The Message)

"Every priest goes to work at the altar each day, offers the same old sacrifices year in, year out, and never makes a dent in the sin problem. As a priest, Christ made a single sacrifice for sins, and that was it! Then he sat down right beside God and waited for his enemies to cave in. It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people. By that single offering, he did everything that needed to be done for everyone who takes part in the purifying process. The Holy Spirit confirms this:

This new plan I'm making with Israel isn't going to be written on paper, isn't going to be chiseled on stone; this time "I'm writing out the plan in them, carving it on the lining of their heart."

He concludes, "I'll forever wipe the slate clean of their sins."

Once sins are taken care of for good, there's no longer any need to offer sacrifices for them.

So, friends, we can now - without hesitation - walk right up to God, into "the Holy Place." Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The "curtain" into God's presence is his body.

So let's do it - full of belief, confident that we're presentable inside and out. Let's keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going."

*********************************************************************

Hebrews 10:11-22 (King James Version)

11And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

12But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

13From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

15Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

16This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

17And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

20By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21And having an high priest over the house of God;

22Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
