GATHERING FOR WORSHIP

ANNOUNCEMENTS

*PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

PREPARING OUR HEARTS AND MINDS FOR WORSHIP:

"Highland Cathedral," arr. Brain Yates

***

Please join me in praising the Lord using the Response printed in your bulletins:

Leader:  Through the years, God's call to discipleship has gone forth to men and women, clans and families, congregations and nations.
People:  We praise and thank God that George Wishart, John Knox, Andrew Melville, and Frances MacKemie responded to God's call!
Leader
:  As we celebrate the legacy we have received from such servants, what shall we now proclaim?
People:  We are all united in the covenant of Jesus Christ, for there is but one Lord, faith, baptism, and God and father of us all!

(After the choir sings the introit, indicate with your hands for the congregation to stand for the first hymn. Do NOT announce the hymn.)

*SONG OF PRAISE #356 (Blue Hymnal):

"Come, Thou fount of Every Blessing"

Lector only: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In humility and faith let us confess our sin to God, using the prayer printed in your bulletins.

*COMING CLEAN BEFORE OUR CREATOR:

Almighty God:  You have lifted up our Lord Jesus from death into life eternal, and set him over people and nations.  We confess that we have not bowed before him, or acknowledged his rule in our lives.  We have gone along with the way of the world, and been careless of others. Forgive us, O God, and lift us out of sin!  Make us men and women who live to praise you, and to obey the commands of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who is ruler of the world and Head of the church his body.  Amen

RECEIVING FORGIVENESS:

(Lector only)

(Responsive for St. Andrew's Day)

Leader:  Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel.  In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
People:  Thanks be to God!

We stand as forgiven people; turn to your neighbors with "The peace of Christ!"

*UNISON AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: Lance Scholtes

(From the Scots Confession of 1560)

We confess and acknowledge one God alone, to whom alone we must cleave, whom alone we must serve, whom only we must worship, and in whom alone we put our trust. Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible, one in substance and yet distinct in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. By whom we confess and believe all things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, to have been created, to be retained in their being, and to be ruled and guided by his inscrutable providence for such end as his eternal wisdom, goodness, and justice have appointed, and to the manifestation of his own glory.
