Please join me in praising the Lord using the Response printed in your bulletin (From Psalm 78)
Leader: "Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;
People: Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
Leader: He established a decree in Jacob,
People: Which he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children;
Leader: So that they should set their hope in God,
People: And not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments."
All: Let us worship God!
(After reciting the Response, indicate with your hands for the congregation to stand for the first hymn. DO NOT announce the hymn)
*SONG OF PRAISE: #155 (Blue Hymnal)
"Rejoice, the Lord Is King"
(Lector only) If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In humility and faith let us confess our sin to God, using the prayer printed in your bulletins.
*COMING CLEAN BEFORE OUR CREATOR:
God Our Maker,
Forgive us for thinking we are "self made" people.
God our Defender,
Forgive us for proud moments
we think we have no need of you.
God our Redeemer,
Forgive us for thinking we can save ourselves!
God our Friend,
Forgive us for taking you for granted.
Bring us back to the joy that comes
from living in right relationship to you!
Amen
RECEIVING FORGIVENESS:
(Lector only)
When we come to God with humble and contrite hearts, He forgives us and hides us in His love. In Christ Jesus we are forgiven!
(Stay at lectern until Song of Gratitude is sung then move to congregation)
