Lector only: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In humility and faith let us confess our sin to God, using the prayer printed in your bulletins.

Lord God:
Forgive us for times we have been weary,
but refused to bring our burdens to you.
Forgive us for times we've thought we've got to do this
all by ourselves, and considered ourselves noble for doing so!
Forgive us for refusing Your yoke,
while accepting readily the yokes
others would place upon us!
Come along side us; enable us to find our rest in You.

Jesus cannot make a new creation of one who is
clinging to his old ways. Yet for those who truly
seek, they will find, to those who knock, the door
will be opened!
As forgiven people let us remain standing as we affirm our faith, saying together the traditional version of the Apostles' Creed on page 14 in the blue hymnal.
