GATHERING FOR WORSHIP

"Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer." Romans 12:12

ANNOUNCEMENTS

*PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

CHORAL INTROIT:

"Let's Prepare," John D Hedges/arr Lynn Kennedy

*****

Please join me in praising the Lord using the Response printed in your bulletin: (from Chalice Worship)
Leader
: We gather to worship with many needs and in so many moods:

Leader: some are ready to shout:
People: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord…"
Leader
: Some echo the psalmist's anguish:

People: "Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice…"
Leader: Some are looking for guidance and direction from the Word of God:
People: "More to be desired are they than gold…sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb…"

Leader: Some long passionately to be close to God:

People: "As a deer longs for the flowing streams so my soul longs for you, O God…"

Leader: God stands ready and able to respond to our needs.

All: In that assurance, let us worship God.

(After reciting the Response, indicate with your hands for the congregation to stand for the first hymn. DO NOT announce the hymn.)

*SONGS OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP: #138 (Blue Hymnal)

"Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!"

(Lector Only) If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In humility and faith let us confess our sin to God, using the prayer printed in your bulletin.

**COMING CLEAN BEFORE OUR CREATOR

Lord God:
You say to hate evil,

yet we seek to get even with those who hurt us.

We are to love one another,

yet we choose some over others.

When it comes time to serve you

we are not that zealous to act.

We do not pray as we ought,

nor do we seek your guidance often enough.

Forgive us, O God, our wayward behavior

and help us to live in harmony with one another.

Thereby through your grace and mercy

may we live peaceably with all. Amen

RECEIVING FORGIVENESS:

(Lector Only)

Do not be overcome by evil,

but overcome evil with good.

Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer,

contribute to the needs of the saints

and extend hospitality to strangers.

For in so doing you will live the new life

promised by the Risen Christ

and show forth the love of God

in whom abides the assurance,

in Jesus Christ

you are forgiven!
